B.C. government announces support for World Luge Championship #Whistler #luge #bcpoli

WHISTLER - The 2013 World Luge Championships in Whistler are benefiting from $100,000 in provincial government funding, announced Minister of State for Small Business Naomi Yamamoto today, on behalf of Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Bill Bennett.

Yamamoto made the announcement amid the fanfare and excitement of the Parade of Nations and official Opening Ceremonies in Whistler.

The championships are scheduled to take place this Friday and Saturday - Feb. 1 and 2 - at the Whistler Sliding Centre. More than 150 of the best lugers in the world, representing at least 23 countries, have gathered in Whistler for the elite competition, which will features men's and women's singles, doubles and team relay races.

The event also is a community celebration, featuring nightly entertainment and fireworks.
