Rash of Vehicle Break Ins: VicPD Calling on Public for Assistance

Victoria BC – Theft from vehicles is on the rise in Victoria and Esquimalt and VicPD is asking for the public’s help in curbing this trend.

Over the last three weeks theft from vehicles has increased 31% over last year’s average. This trend is especially prevalent in the areas of Esquimalt Road and Lampson Street which have seen an increase in theft from vehicles.  The same trend is noted in Vancouver Street and Rockland Avenue in Victoria.

Officers have used this information to increase patrols in the area, specifically targeting these high theft areas. VicPD has also deployed both the VicPD Volunteers and Reserve Constables to help educate members of the public in best practices for leaving their vehicles unattended through the Lock out Auto Crime program.

VicPD is also asking members of the public to be vigilant in reporting these types of crimes. You can easily report theft from vehicles online at www.vicpd.ca or through our non-emergency line at 250-995-7654.

The information reported to us is used to target areas of concern and will help us dedicate the appropriate resources to an area to curb this issue.
