VICTORIA, BC — The Residential Branch Chipping program provides Victoria residents with an opportunity to remove tree branches from their yard. Residential branch chipping starts at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12.
Residents are asked to have their tree branches on the boulevard for chipping by this date and time. Each household in Victoria is allowed one branch pile, limited to 1.2 metres x 1.2 metres x 1.8 metres (4 feet x 4 feet x 6 feet). This is the approximate amount that a half-ton pick-up truck can hold.
To assist Parks crews:
• Only tree branches, please.
• Branches are to be loosely stacked into one pile with their cut ends together.
• Branches should not be placed in bags, boxes, or tied with string or wire.
City trucks make only one pass down a street. If a return trip is required, a fee of $40 will be charged per request.
The wood chips produced are mixed with leaf mulch at the Beacon Hill Park Maintenance Yard for use as a
fertilizer and to suppress weeds in City garden beds.
Victoria residents can also drop off their garden waste for free, year-round at the City’s Public Works Yard at 417 Garbally Road on Saturdays, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proof of residency is required.
