The ceremony begins with the arrival of the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of B.C. She will be greeted with a 15-gun Vice Regal Salute. After inspecting the artillery detachment, guard and band, she will enter the Legislature Building to read the Speech from the Throne. The traditional pomp and ceremony is symbolic of the nation’s will to protect its values and democratic institutions.
The Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy will lead the Royal Guard of Honour comprised of men and women of the sea, land and air components of Joint Task Force (Pacific). The 5th B.C. Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery saluting guns will be located on Belleville Street above the causeway at 1:05 p.m. Traffic will be restricted during the short ceremony.
