VICTORIA, BC – The City of Victoria is now accepting
applications for the 2013 Special Projects Grant Program. The maximum grant amount is $10,000.
Each year, the
City of Victoria offers Special Project Grants to assist community
organizations with new programs or projects that support the work of the City in reaching its sustainability goals. This year, the goals of the Sustainability Action Plan will provide
direction for all proposals. The goals include: reducing waste, reducing green
house gas emissions and increasing energy efficiency in Victoria, expanding green
economy opportunities and creating a livable city for everyone.
The City of Victoria is seeking projects and
programs, which provide the optimum combination of quality, service, cost, and
sustainability considerations.
Two examples of Special
Project Grants projects funded in recent years include: The Victoria Downtown Public Market
"Eat Here Now" celebration that promoted the production and enjoyment
of local food, and the Bipolar Disorder Society’s "Stigma Stomp"
classroom project that worked to increase understanding and acceptance of
people with bipolar disorder.
The Sustainability Action Plan has been
created to guide Victoria on its journey to becoming more sustainable, living
within the planet’s means, and sharing resources equitably. It can be found at: www.victoria.ca/sustainability
The online application form
