Citizens Get Involved to Save Life in Beacon Hill Park
Victoria BC – Two individuals are being awarded
VicPD’s Civic Service Award for their quick actions that saved the life of a
man.
On January 19th, Lorna Partridge and Janine Reitsma
were out enjoying Beacon Hill Park. Neither one knew each other, but both were
brought together on this day to save a man’s life.
Partridge had been walking through the park when she saw a
man who had just attempted suicide. She called to Reitsma who was also walking
nearby. The two supported the man and called 911 for help.
Officers and the B.C. Ambulance Service arrived within
moments and were able to save the man’s life. He was later admitted to
hospital for psychological help.
The Civic Service Award recognizes both members of the
community and the department who demonstrate outstanding service to the
communities of Victoria and Esquimalt in making our region the safest in
Canada.
