Victoria BC – VicPD will be awarding a pair of Civic
Service Awards to a local couple after their quick thinking and action led to
the arrest of a well-known prolific property thief. The suspect was nabbed
after the couple caught him rummaging through their vehicle’s back seat.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday night, officers were
called to the 1500-block of Pandora Street in response to a 911 call. The
female caller reported that her boyfriend was attempting to hold onto a man who
had just broken into his truck.
Officers raced to the scene and found the 37-year-old
Metchosin man tussling with the well-known thief while his girlfriend stayed on
the line, guiding officers to the area. When officers were able to
arrest the suspect, they were able to start putting together the pieces of the
investigation.
It appears that the suspect had broken into the man’s truck
by smashing a window. Once in the vehicle, he had begun to rummage around
looking for items to steal. Once video surveillance was retrieved, it was
revealed that this suspect was likely responsible for a rash of car break-ins
from January 29th as well.
Three counts of mischief under $5000 and two counts of theft
under $5000 have been approved against Alexander Sitnik, a 43-year-old man of
no fixed address.
