Road Improvements on Hillside Avenue
May Cause Traffic Delays
VICTORIA, BC – Beginning
Wednesday, February 27, westbound lanes along Hillside Avenue will be reduced
to single lane traffic between Shelbourne and Shakespeare Streets for
approximately six weeks.
The lane closure will allow crews to
complete road and sidewalk improvements as part of the Hillside Mall
redevelopment project. The sidewalk on the north side of Hillside Avenue at
Hillside Mall will also be closed to pedestrians and the transit stop
temporarily relocated east of Shelbourne Street.
Signs will be posted to assist with
traffic flow. Motorists and cyclists are encouraged to use other routes to
avoid delays.
Once all road work related to the
Hillside Mall redevelopment is complete improvements will include a sidewalk
separated from the road by a boulevard and rain garden, new bus bays, and
on-road bike lanes in both directions. The existing crosswalk at Shakespeare
Street will be replaced with a new traffic signal with crosswalks in all four
directions.
