Parks Canada is welcoming people to celebrate BC’s first-ever Family Day
with free entry for youth aged 16 and under who visit Canada’s national
historic sites in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island with their families
throughout the long weekend. Kids six and under get in free every day.
The special promotion runs from February
9 to 11, 2013 at the four national historic sites in BC – Fort Rodd Hill &
Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites, Fort Langley National Historic
Site, and Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. Parks is joining a
number of regional tourism providers who are offering family-oriented discounts,
extended hours or specialized programming over the long weekend.
On behalf of the people of Canada,
Parks Canada manages a nationwide network that makes up a rich tapestry of
Canada’s historical heritage and offers the public opportunities for real and
inspiring discoveries. For more information about programs and activities,
please visit www.parkscanada.gc.ca/vancouver.
BC’s 1st Family Day at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse
National Historic Sites.
Let the kids march or run; spy or signal their
position; climb or go underground at Fort Rodd Hill, a 115-year-old coast
artillery fort that once defended Victoria and the naval base at Esquimalt.
Then show them how to steer a ship; sound the fog horn; and master the games
inside Fisgard, the oldest lighthouse on the west coast.
These special places, only 15 minutes west of
downtown Victoria, are so cool.
The site is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
