Navy Ships Dress Commemorating QE II’s Accession to the Throne

ESQUIMALT, B.C. – Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) ships in harbour will be “dressing ship” from sunrise to sunset tomorrow (February 6, 2013) to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.

Dressing ship is a navy tradition of flying signal flags on a line from bow to stern with the National Flag at the masthead. This is done to mark significant events in Canada and the Commonwealth, and occurs on nine different occasions throughout the year including our National Flag Day.
