“This agreement really symbolizes two on-campus partners, who believe in providing the best possible student experience for the ultimate success of our students, combining to create important support for our student-athletes, while also growing our Vikes brand both on and off campus,” said Clint Hamilton, Director of Vikes Athletics and Recreation.
The recently-renovated Bookstore
features an in-store Vikes section offering high quality Vikes Nike apparel to
all customers. Within the Vikes Bookstore agreement, a percentage of all
"Vikes merchandise" sales will help
fund student-athlete scholarships.
“The UVic Bookstore is proud that
our partnership with Vikes Athletics will yield tangible benefits for UVic
student-athletes,” said Jim Forbes, Director of Campus Services.
“There are two levels of benefit derived from this partnership – a great
product and a percentage of every sale will be targeted for student-athlete
scholarships.”
The agreement also provides support
to two key annual scholarship fundraising events, the Vikes
Championship Breakfast and Vikes Golf Classic, as well as marketing
opportunities aimed at driving the student experience at Vikes games.
“I think its great that everyone is
able to purchase the apparel and all the contributions are greatly
appreciated,” said Jaclyn Sawicki (Coquitlam, BC),
student-athlete and second-year women’s soccer player.
“Overall this is a great agreement
for our program and the school in general,” said fifth-year men’s basketball
player Michael Acheampong (Toronto, Ont.).
“It gives awareness to athletics as a whole and gets the whole school
involved.”
