Stolen Vehicle Ends with Crash #yyj @VicPDCanada

Victoria BC – An early morning crash ended a joy ride for occupants of a stolen 2013 Ford F350 earlier today.

Officers initially noticed the truck speeding and without a front license plate along Craigflower Road and Lampson Street at approximately 3:15 a.m. The officers turned their marked patrol car around in order to stop the truck for the traffic infractions.

When the officers turned their vehicle around, the truck took off at high speed, blowing through a red light and missing another patrol unit who was coming into the area.

Mere moments later, one of the responding units saw an explosion as the truck collided with a power pole knocking live wires to the ground.

Officers quickly attended the area and called to any occupants in the vehicle, but because of the live wires had to exercise an abundance of caution in approaching it.

Once the truck was able to be searched, it was revealed that the occupants had already fled.  Due to the seriousness of the crime and out of concern for the well-being of any passengers, both the Saanich Police Department and the West Shore RCMP were asked to provide assistance.

A track, by VicPD K9, with assistance from by the Saanich Police Department K9 was initiated at that time, but the suspects were not caught.

The vehicle has been towed back to VicPD headquarters for a forensic examination as this investigation continues.
