Quick
Thinking Citizens Recover Purse after Robbery
Victoria BC – Quick thinking citizens led to the
recovery of a victims purse after a brazen personal robbery.
On Sunday night at approximately 7:30 p.m., VicPD was called
to a personal robbery at Fort and Quadra streets. The victim, a 28-year-old
Saanich woman, and her friend, were walking in the 800-block of Yates Street
when a male approached them from behind and, without saying anything, cut the
purse strap from the victim’s shoulder and ran away.
Both the victim and her friend gave chase, along with other
witnesses in the area, but they lost sight of the suspect in the area of
Blanshard and View streets.
Officers scoured the area looking for the suspect, but to no
avail.
While officers were investigating, another phone call came
into VicPD from a citizen who claimed he had confronted the suspect and got the
purse back. He had then given the purse to the Yates Street parkade security
guard before calling police and leaving.
The citizen did not give his name or information, but
officers arrived at the parkade to find the purse with the security guard, and
all contents accounted for. The description of the man who returned the purse
did not match the suspect.
Officers are still looking to identify the suspect in the
robbery. He is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 26-years-old with
black hair and black beard. At the time of the robbery he was wearing blue
jeans and a red hoodie.
If you have information about the robbery, or know the who
the suspect or good Samaritan is, please contact VicPD on the non-emergency
line of 250-995-7654 or do it anonymously through Crime Stoppers at
1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
