Collision
in Marked Crosswalk Sends Pedestrian to Hospital
Victoria BC – VicPD Traffic collision analysts are
investigating a serious collision that occurred this morning, sending a
40-year-old Victoria woman to hospital with serious but non-life threatening
injuries.
Officers were called to the 900-block of Douglas Street just
after 9 a.m. for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian. Witnesses said
a white Sport Utility Vehicle had failed to stop, and hit the pedestrian in the
marked crosswalk. Officers arrived with the Provincial Ambulance Service who
tended to the victim, transporting her to the Victoria General Hospital.
Preliminary investigation suggested the driver’s attention
may have been drawn to a group of children who near the roadway. It is believed
that this distracted her and she did not stop for the marked crosswalk.
The driver of the SUV stayed on scene and was cooperative
with investigators. She was later issued a ticket for failing to yield to a
pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, which carries a fine of $167.
