Victoria BC – VicPD Detectives and patrol are hot on the heels of a suspect who has bilked local seniors out of thousands.
The
most recent report came last week when a 92-year-old woman was taken
for $2000. The scammer, who police are looking to identify, approached
the woman in a care facility, passing himself off as a long lost
relative.
In
this scam the suspect pretended to be a nephew who needed cash to pay a
bill, but there have been many iterations of this same scam. The
suspect accompanied the woman to the bank where she withdrew the money
and gave it to the him. Police are aware of at least two other
attempted scams on other seniors.
Detectives
are aggressively pursuing the suspect in this case but are requesting
the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect. He is
described as a Caucasian man, in his 50’s, 5-foot-6, thin build. He is
also described as missing some front teeth and having a ruddy
complexion. If you recognize this suspect, please contact the
Detective tip line at 250-995-7444 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
If
you see this suspect please do not approach him but call 911
immediately. All police agencies across the Province have been notified
of this investigation and are actively assisting the VicPD in pursuit of
this suspect.
