Greater Victoria #1 Small City in Americas @cityofvictoria @MyDVBA #yyj @ChamberVictoria @DeanFortin

April 10, 2013 – Victoria, BC – For the third time, Victoria has been named a multi American Cities of the Future Awards winner by fDi Magazine from the Financial Times. Victoria took home three of the 2013/2014 awards including:

  • Best Business Friendliness Winner (small city category)
  • Overall Winner (small city category)
  • Top 10 Best Foreign Direct Investment Strategy (small city category)
The third award, Top 10 FDI strategy, highlights the Greater Victoria Development Agency’s (GVDA) excellence and was selected by a panel of independent judges.

These awards recognize the GVDA’s hard work in creating an effective talent attraction and investment strategy for Greater Victoria,” says Mike Weston, GVDA Chair and owner of Cube Global Storage. “They also highlight our city’s incredible talent base and our focus on maintaining a high quality of life.”

“After over 50 years of success as a Victoria-based firm, Daniels Electronics Ltd. was acquired by Australia’s Codan Ltd. in 2012,” says Robert Small, Vice-President and General Manager of Codan Radio Communications and previous President of Daniels Electronics, “Codan executives were so impressed by the high-quality of talent both in the community and within Daniels as a company that they chose to keep the new division in Victoria. We are an example of how continuing to make Victoria more attractive as a place to live, work, and invest will lead to economic sustainability.”

Other companies such as Microsoft’s Gaming Division, Vecima Networks, and Cebas Visual Technologies have chosen to move their business here, demonstrating Greater Victoria’s attractiveness as a place to invest and do business.
