VicPD Statement on Conclusion of OPCC Public Hearing #yyj @VICPDCanada

Victoria BC – Following today’s conclusion of the public hearing led by independent adjudicator Ben Casson, VicPD Chief Jamie Graham is offering this statement:

“VicPD respects the sanctions delivered today by the provincial Adjudicator Ben Casson following the public hearing directed by the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner. We will review the details of the decision and the circumstances of this case to determine if changes or adjustments should be made to our policies and procedures. The department continues to support the civilian oversight mechanisms that are in place in this province and the important work that they do ensuring public confidence in the work that we do.

The OPCC-directed process thoroughly reviewed every aspect of this matter and our department and our members have been full participants throughout. We fully realize the effect this incident has had on the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt, as well as the members of VicPD and the officers involved. I’m sure everyone is relieved that the three-year-long process is behind us as we continue to focus on our mission to provide policing services to the residents of Victoria and Esquimalt.”
